      Here's the truth about Easter
Ah, Easter. Time to buy a new dress and hide brightly colored eggs, right? It's a celebration of spring, when trees once again sprout leaves and pretty flowers bloom.
Wrong. If that's what Easter means to you, fine. Spring certainly is worth celebrating, and kids need quality time outdoors with parents for whatever reason. But, for Christ's sake, please call it another name.

Where next?

Easter has nothing to do with dressing up and proudly looking your best. It has nothing to do with cotton tails or bunny trails or telling lies to trusting children. Easter has everything to do with the resurrection of Jesus.
To me, it's the most holy day of the year. The word holy, as defined by the Bible, means separate or set apart. And that's what Easter should be -- separate from the world, set aside to God's Son.
The unbelieving world has twisted Easter into a pagan observance as sure as "holy day" over the years has become "holiday." I used to treat holy days as holidays, so I shouldn't throw stones. In fact, I didn't believe there need be any Christmas or Easter, because I didn't believe there was a God.
     But I was wrong.
God graphically got my attention one day and proved to me, beyond any shadow of doubt, that He is real. You would expect such a statement from an ordained minister, but how about a newspaper editor? Yet I first reported the truth of Easter as exactly that -- the editor of a Corpus Christi-area newspaper.  After researching the subject and determining the facts, here is the simple truth of Easter:
GOD IS REAL! He loves us despite our faults and wants us to turn to Him, to follow Him, to depend on Him. The Supreme Being is not just any god of man's definition, but the God of the Bible, the Ancient of Days, the great "I Am." Yet He's a personal God who wants to be a vital part of our daily lives.
JESUS IS ALIVE! He lived and died and was the Messiah, just as the Bible says. Most important, Jesus arose from the grave, just as Gospel accounts report. Christ was seen by hundreds of people before He ascended into heaven. How do I know that for a fact, you might ask? Jesus lives within my heart, that's how!
JESUS IS GOD'S OWN SON!  God the Father sent Jesus to us as the promised Redeemer who can rescue any soul, no matter how smudged. The sacrificial Lamb of God, who covers our sins from the Father's sight with His sinless blood, promises that anyone who trusts in Him, likewise, will arise from the grave and spend eternity in the paradise of heaven. Furthermore, Jesus presently is at the right hand of the Father, interceding on our behalf while preparing places for us. Until that day, Jesus stands ready to be your best friend.
THE HOLY SPIRIT WORKS wonders in the hearts of all people willing to trust the truth of Easter -- even the hardest of hearts. To see us through until the time we see our Lord face to face, Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us and meet our needs. The same Spirit who authored the Holy Bible thus resides in every born-again believer, translating God's Word and bestowing abilities, so we can know and accomplish God's will in our lives.
If ever you have invited Jesus into your heart as Savior and Lord, then draw ever closer to Him this Easter. If you haven't, then know this truth as well: You've been able to read this far because Jesus is at the door of your heart, knocking. Please let Him in. Then you'll know the truth -- and the truth shall set you free of this world's grip.
